Here is a picture of our 3-D model of the layers of the tropical rainforest.

The Emergent strata is a very important part of the rainforest.  To begin with, in the Emergent the temperatures are very rainy and humid. Temperatures can very to 80-90 degrees F.  Normal rainfall can be up to 280 inches of rain per year. The monkey species is one of the most popular species in the Emergent layer. There are many species of bugs in this layer. Can you find our camouflaged walking stick and baby yellow eared parrot hiding in a tree? A lot of elegant, colorful animals live in this layer. The trees in this layer are outrageously tall. They rise from 200-270 feet tall. Many trees including the broad leaves and hardwood trees live in this amazing layer. Now you know more about this important layer!

The canopy is the most colorful and lively layer of the rainforest.  In the canopy, the most beautiful animals roam around. Monkeys, anacondas, anteaters, frogs, and colorful birds live in the canopy. It’s vital for animals to camouflage. See if you can find our hidden frogs and the snake.  There are deadly and beautiful plants in the canopy.  Some examples of the varieties are strangler figs, coconuts, orange trees, lemon trees, kapok trees, avocado trees, and a lot of orchids.  The plants grow so well because of the excellent climate.  The climate is very tropical and moist.   The canopy is an exquisite layer of the rainforest.

Under the trees of the canopy lies many exquisite plants, animals, and insects of the understory.  The lush plant life of the understory all have the same characteristics, green.  For example, the many trees are waiting to grow through the canopy opening.  You will also see lots of vines are in this layer. The understory’s climate is different from the other strata in many ways. In the understory, the sun’s bright rays cannot be seen or felt through the gigantic branching trees of the other strata. It has a cool temperature and dim light which makes this strata damp. The animal life is very popular.  Most animals are nocturnal, such as owls and bats.   Colorful tree frogs can be found in this layer. Some insects are bees and beetles.  The animals also have to protect themselves.  Can you find the camouflaged snake, the hiding frog, the butterfly with eyes, and the frog with warning colors? Those are some animals protecting themselves from predators. All the qualities of the understory strata make it different from the others.  The understory is very important to the Rainforest.

There are lots of mysteries in this part of the rainforest, the forest floor. There are many different kinds of animals and insects like caterpillars, spiders, army ants, Hercules Beetles, iguanas, small snakes, and frogs. Try to find the lizard lurking in the brown leaves. Also the climate is mostly hot and humid. There are hot temperatures all year. Lots of plants are at the bottom of this dark, damp floor, like the Venus Flytrap, Pitcher Plants, bamboo, and fungi. WOW! The forest floor has lots of interesting facts to learn.
